AZTEC STORY LINES
- San Diego State, the defending Mountain West Conference champions, hits the road this week for a pair of pivotal MWC matches against Utah and No. 13 BYU. The Aztecs and Utes will get together Thursday night in Salt Lake City at 7 p.m. MT, before facing the Cougars Saturday under the lights in a 7 p.m. MT game televised by BYUtv. The SDSU-BYU contest will also be re-aired on The Mtn. Sunday at 10 p.m. PT.

- This week's games feature three of the top four teams in the conference and will have a huge impact on the standings as teams jockey for position heading into Mountain West tournament action. San Diego State and Brigham Young, 2009's tournament and regular season champ, respectively, are currently tied for second place at 3-1, behind only New Mexico (4-0). Utah, meanwhile, finds itself in fourth place at 2-1-1 behind the Aztecs and Cougars.

- SDSU is coming off a 2-0 week after a 2-1 overtime victory over Air Force and a 2-0 shutout win over Wyoming. The two-match winning streak is the longest of the season for the Aztecs and moved their home record above .500 at 4-3-2. San Diego State has now won three straight at home with two coming by way of the shutout (vs. TCU, vs. Wyoming).

- Goalkeeper Aubree Southwick made history on Saturday as she became the MWC's all-time career saves leader. The senior needed two to break the record entering the Wyoming contest and finished with a game-high five. Southwick, the SDSU all-time leader in shutouts and saves, now has 331 career stops. The Aztec keeper broke New Mexico's Kristen Winters' league record of 327 set in 2001-05.

- Freshman Soledad Gomez finished the week as the Aztecs' leading scorer after scoring once vs. Air Force and posting the game-winner vs. Wyoming. The goals were her first two of her career and came on her only two shots on net.

- Freshman Haley Palmer had an impressive showing this past week as she racked up three assists. The defender assisted on both goals in the Air Force game and the game-winner in the match vs. Wyoming. Palmer shares the team lead in assists with senior Michaela DeJesus as both have four apiece.

- Another freshman, Carli Johnson, also got in the act as she headed in the game-winner vs. Air Force. Johnson took a corner from Palmer and calmly headed her shot past the Falcon keeper. The goal was her second of the season and her first career game-winner.

- San Diego State's freshmen have had a huge impact on the team this season, including this past week. Of the four goals scored by SDSU, three were by freshmen and of five assists recorded, three were by freshmen. First-year Aztecs, which includes newcomers, have 17 points (Haley Palmer - 6, Soledad Gomez - 4, Carli Johnson - 4, Kim Carcich - 2, Erskine - 1) for the season, which is 36.2 percent of San Diego State's total points for the year.

- The Aztecs' loss at New Mexico on Oct. 9 snapped an impressive streak. Going into the match, San Diego State had won eight straight over Mountain West schools and were unbeaten in their last 10 vs. the league, both of which were program records. Despite the setback, the Aztecs have still won 10 of their last 11 and are unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 vs. the conference.

- San Diego State enters Thursday's match with Utah trailing in the all-time series, 4-11-3. The Aztecs won the last meeting in double overtime at the 2009 MWC tournament, 2-1, to advance to the title game. SDSU is 1-0-1 in the last two meetings, but was 0-4 prior to that and 0-7-2 prior to San Diego State's two-game unbeaten streak. The Aztecs are 2-4-2 all time in SLC.

- SDSU travels to Provo with a 9-9-4 all-time record vs. BYU. Like its series with Utah, San Diego State is 1-0-1 in its last two meetings. Most recently, the Aztecs defeated the Cougars on their home field, 1-0, to claim the 2009 league tournament crown. Since a 1-0 win in San Diego in 2003, the Aztecs have had a good amount of success vs. BYU, going 4-2-4 in the process. In Provo, however, SDSU is just 3-7-2.

- October has been the month where San Diego State has recently played its best soccer. Dating back to a season ago, the Aztecs are 9-1-3 in the month and winners of eight of their last nine.
