For the third consecutive game, the 30th-ranked San Diego State men's soccer team outshot the opposition on the road, but still dropped a 1-0 decision to Stanford Sunday in Palo Alto, Calif. The Aztecs fell to 7-5-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the Pac-10 with the loss, while the Cardinal improved to 7-6-0 and 3-2-0.

Stanford's goal came in the 78th minute when Clayton Holz, who has just subbed in the game, sent in a bending ball into the box where Cameron Lamming headed it into the top corner for the game-winner.

SDSU outshot the home team, 15-11, including a 6-3 advantage on goal. In addition, San Diego State won the corner kick battle, 6-3.

True freshman Miles Byass (Highland, Calif.) had a team-high four shots off the bench, while senior captains Khadim Diouf (Dakar, Senegal) and Raymundo Reza (Denver, Colo.) had three attempts apiece.

Reza has the game's best chance in the first half in the 25th-minute but his shot from the right side that drove toward the bottom left corner just missed the post.

The Aztecs had a few chances in the second 45, but two of their set pieces hit the Cardinal wall. Diouf had a late attempt, too, but it went just wide.

SDSU's Brad Byrns (Alamo, Calif.) made two saves, while Stanford's Galen Perkins had six stops.

San Diego State returns to The Mesa Friday for a game against nationally ranked California at 3 p.m. PT.
