San Diego State goalkeeper Aubree Southwick set the all-time Mountain West Conference career saves record and shut out Wyoming in the process as the Aztecs emerged with a 2-0 victory Saturday morning at SDSU Sports Deck. The win was the Scarlet and Black's second in a row and ups their record to 5-8-3 (3-1 MWC). The Cowgirls, meanwhile, drop to 6-9-1 (0-3-1 MWC).

Southwick, who came into the match needing just two saves to break the conference career record, finished the contest with a game-high five stops. The senior surpassed New Mexico's Kristen Winters (327) for the No. 1 spot and now has 331 career saves, which is also a school record.

The Aztecs got on the scoreboard in the 27th minute after they earned a corner kick. Senior Michaela DeJesus took the corner and sent it to Haley Palmer, who was at the top of the box. The freshman subsequently found classmate Soledad Gomez and the Vista, Calif., native snuck her shot past Wyoming goalkeeper Courtney Merkle to give SDSU the 1-0 lead.

San Diego State kept Wyoming in check until halftime and into the second half long enough to where the Aztecs were able to increase its lead to 2-0 in the 54th minute. Junior Megan McQueeny fired a shot that went wide, but the Aztecs were able to keep possession and McQueeny found herself with the ball again. This time the defender passed the ball to her left and found Bennett, who touched it once and fired her shot from 18 yards out into the upper left corner of the net.

Wyoming made a couple of late charges in an attempt to make the game close, but the Aztecs thwarted each of their chances to secure their 10th win in their last 11 outings against MWC opposition. SDSU also remained unbeaten in 12 of its last 13 vs. the Mountain West with the decision.

Gomez and Bennett both found the back of the net for the second time this year. Gomez's goal was her second in as many games and her first career game-winner. Palmer, meanwhile, picked up her third assist of the week after assisting on two goals in Friday's win over Air Force. DeJesus, who was also in on the Gomez goal, posted her fourth assist of the season to share team-high honors with Palmer. McQueeny, lastly, assisted on her second goal of the campaign when Bennett scored.

After Southwick obtained the MWC career saves record, she was lifted from the game in favor of sophomore Megan Allaire. The backup goalkeeper logged just under 16 minutes of action and made one save. The SDSU netminders combined on the Aztecs' second shutout of 2010 and their second in their last three home games.

San Diego State returns to action Thursday when it takes on Utah in Salt Lake City. First tap is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.
