SAN DIEGO - For the second time this season, the San Diego State volleyball team defeated the University of Seattle in three sets, this time claiming the victory in Peterson Gym Friday night. The Aztecs previously downed the Redhawks during the ASU Sheraton Classic in Tempe, Ariz., in early September.

With the win, SDSU improved to 9-10 on the season while Seattle saw its record drop to 9-12.

San Diego State got 10 kills apiece from first-year Aztecs Jessica Peacock and Raegan Shelton to lead the offensive attack. Peacock, a junior from Australia via the College of Southern Idaho, hit .562 for the match to establish a career best attack percentage for the second straight match after hitting .517 against Utah last Saturday (Oct. 9). Shelton, a freshman from Amarillo, Texas, also had a pair of blocks and hit .304 over the three sets.

Junior Andrea Hannasch finished with nine kills, and both she and teammate Paije Pearson contributed three blocks apiece to pace the Aztecs. Setter Johnna Fouch had 36 assists and seven digs while libero Kristi Jackels led all players with 14 digs.

Seattle's Cristin Richards had a match-high 16 kills with Redhawk teammate Jordan Keller leading all players with five blocks.

San Diego State took control in the opening set as it raced out to a 12-4 lead behind the hitting of Peacock, Hannasch and Shelton. The visitors tried to work their way back into the contest, but could only crawl back to within four points late at 24-20. A kill by Sexton finished the game to give the Aztecs a leg up in the match.

The second set started much the same way as SDSU took an 11-4 lead. This time, however, the Redhawks were able to rally and came back to trail by a single point at 16-15. From there, the Aztecs scored a pair of points on a Seattle service error and kill by Hannasch to re-establish control and see out the remainder of the set.

Set number three ended up being the closest of the night even though SDSU had the momentum early and grabbed a 16-10 advantage midway through the contest. Seattle scored six of the next seven points to close the score to 17-16 and eventually tied the contest at 22-22. The teams traded two points apiece and at 24-all the Aztecs got a kill by Shelton and a Redhawk attack error to close out the set and match.

Up next for San Diego State is a visit to Colorado Springs to take on Mountain West Conference foe Air Force on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. (MT). That match will be televised live on TheMtn network.
