COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State sophomore Marianne Hogan has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the second consecutive weekly honor for the Bedford, Quebec (Canada) native.
Hogan led the Aztecs to a second-place team finish of 11 at the UCSD Triton Classic. Hogan, who was SDSU's top runner for the fourth consecutive race, took second of 107 runners with a 6,000-meter time of 22 minutes, 24.5 seconds. She finished runner-up to Violah Lagat, a four-time All-American at 2009 NJCAA Cross Country champion Central Arizona, who won the race in 22:08.4.
So far this season, Hogan has finished sixth (Aztec Invitational), 23rd (Stanford Invitational), first (Pomona-Pitzer Invitational) and second (UCSD Triton Classic). Hogan has beaten 94.40 percent of the runners she has competed against in 2010.
San Diego State has a week off from competition before returning Oct. 22 for Cal State Fullerton's Titan Invite.
