San Diego State, for the second consecutive match, added a tie to its record after playing even with Utah State on Sunday afternoon. The Aztecs, who received a goal from junior Kim Carcich, ended 110 minutes of action deadlocked at 1-1. With the draw, SDSU moves to 1-3-2, while the Aggies leave Montezuma Mesa with a mark of 2-1-2.

The first half had its fair share of shots with San Diego State taking eight (four on goal) and the visitors attempting four (three on goal). Every shot, however, was easily saved by Aztec keeper Aubree Southwick and Aggie netminder Molli Merrill.

Scoreless after 45 minutes, SDSU started the second half with ball and quickly earned a corner kick. Freshman Carli Johnson, who attempted a majority of the kicks on the day, sent the ball into the box where sophomore Sarah Halverson controlled it on the right side and found Carcich on the left. The junior, with a defender draped on her, got her foot on the ball and scored her first goal of her career to give the Aztecs a 1-0 lead with 42 minutes left in regulation.

After a back-and- forth 12-plus minutes, Utah State leveled the score at 1-1 when Lauren Hansen scored her second of the season. The Aggies found themselves in transition near midfield and Stefani Shiozaki sent a pass to Hansen, who was even with her defender. Hansen, who touched it once and was by her defender leaving her with a one-on-one chance vs. Southwick, put just enough on the shot to have it trickle by the SDSU goalkeeper.

With 30 minutes left in the second half, the offensive momentum slowly shifted to Utah State, but the Aztec defense did not allow the Aggies to get off a shot. San Diego State, however, managed to attempt three shots when thwarting USU's attack, but could not find the game-winner as the match moved into overtime.

In the first 10 minutes of the extra session, neither team could solve the other as zero shots were recorded. In the final 10 minutes, San Diego State got off three shots, including two on net, but were stopped each time and the game finished in a draw.

SDSU finished with an advantage in shots (16-7), shots on goal (8-6) and corner kicks (6-1). Southwick, meanwhile, had five saves.

San Diego State returns to action next Friday and Sunday when it plays host to San Jose State and North Carolina, respectively. SDSU and SJSU will take the pitch at 11 a.m. PT on Friday. The Aztecs will then turn their attention to 21-time and defending national champion North Carolina on Sunday. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. PT.
