ST. CATHARINES, ONT. - Former San Diego State All-American golfer Aaron Goldberg (Encinitas, Calif.) turned in a dominating performance at last weekend's Canadian Tour Championship, firing a 15-under 265 to win by six strokes. It was Goldberg's third title of 2010, clinching the Canadian Tour money crown with an all-time high of more than $151,000 in season earnings.
The triumph at St. Catharines Golf and Country Club in Ontario was the latest in a fantastic season for the four-time SDSU letterwinner. In just seven starts this season, Goldberg has three wins, a runner-up finish and three additional placings inside the top nine. In his 32 tournament rounds, Goldberg has racked up 21 rounds in the 60s, including a 65 on Sunday.
Goldberg will conclude his Canadian Tour season at the inaugural Desert Dunes Classic in Palm Springs in November. His success has already gotten him a trip to the second stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School in November. Should he qualify for the finals, he will play an additional six rounds in the hopes of earning a PGA Tour card. Goldberg has played in two PGA Tour events this year, finishing tied for 72nd in January's Sony Open in Hawaii and narrowly missing the cut in July's RBC Canadian Open.
While at San Diego State, Goldberg was a two-time All-American and three-time all-MWC selection. His 12-under 201 at the 2006 District 7 Shootout remains the lowest 54-hole individual performance in program history.
