SDSU Men's Basketball Preseason Accolades in PDF Format
The San Diego State men's basketball team is projected to be one of the country's best squads in 2010-11 and one that will either open the season in the top 25 or be close to cracking it, according to Jason King of Yahoo! Sports.
The Aztecs were one of just nine programs included on the list, and the only team representing California.
"Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year Kawhi Leonard leads a cast of five returning starters that also includes shot-swatting forward Malcolm Thomas," King said. He added that "Leonard, Thomas and Billy White should combine to form one of the MWC's top frontcourts. Guards D.J. Gay and Chase Tapley were among San Diego State's most improved players last season."
Also among the nine teams are three teams appearing on San Diego State's schedule. The Aztecs face Gonzaga (Nov. 16), Wichita State (Dec. 4) and longtime conference rival BYU (Jan. 26 and Feb. 26).
The Aztecs return nine letterwinners and all five starters from last season's 25-9 team. Head Coach Steve Fisher's team is one of just four 2010 NCAA Tournament teams that returns its entire starting lineup in 2010-11.
SDSU enters the 2010-11 season fresh off one of its most successful efforts after winning the MWC tournament crown, advancing to the NCAA Tournament and compiling a 25-9 record. The Scarlet and Black have won 20 or more games and advanced to the postseason five consecutive seasons. San Diego State inches toward the `10-11 season with much anticipation as it is ranked No. 22 in Lindy's Sports preseason magazine, No. 23 in Dick Vitale's preseason poll and No. 24 in Andy Katz's rankings. ESPN.com's Pat Forde and FoxSports.com's Jeff Goodman, meanwhile, have tabbed the Aztecs as one of their top teams heading into `10-11.
San Diego State men's basketball season tickets are currently on sale at GoAztecs.com and start at $99 for reserved chair back seats. For more information, please contact the Aztec Ticket Office at (619) 283-7378.
