SAN DIEGO - San Diego State and TCU played a classic five set match with the Aztecs emerging victorious with a five-set (25-11, 17-25, 27-25, 22-25, 15-12) win over the Horned Frogs Saturday afternoon in Peterson Gym. With the win, SDSU evened its record at 7-7 and is 2-0 to begin its conference season for the first time since 2002.

Andrea Hannasch and Kyley Sexton shared team-high honors with 16 kills apiece. Sexton added 13 digs to complete a double-double effort while Hannasch contributed three blocks and five digs.

The Aztecs had three other players end the afternoon in double figures in kills included Kyley Sexton (16), Raegan Shelton (13) and Jessica Peacock (10). In addition, setter Johnna Fouch recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 52 assists and 16 digs while libero Kristi Jackels led all players with 16 digs.

TCU's Irene Hester led all players in the match with 20 kills with teammates Jordan Raines and Christy Hudson chipped in with 18 and 11 respectively. Hudson ended the match with a triple double as she also had 19 assists and 13 digs for the Horned Frogs (9-6, 0-1 MWC)

The first two sets were mirror images of each other as each team took a turn in the dominant role. In the opener, it was the Aztecs who grabbed the early lead at 4-2 and steadily built on that advantage over the course of the game, at one point winning seven consecutive points behind the serving of Hannasch. SDSU hit .550 for the set while holding the Horned Frogs to a -.038 mark.

TCU turned the tables in set two, running out to a six-point lead at 10-4 and never being threatened the rest of the way. Raines led the way for the Frogs with six kills and a pair of blocks as her team hit .382 for the contest compared to .125 for the Aztecs.

After the break, the third set proved to be a different proposition as the teams stayed within two points of each other until 18-18 when the visitors scored three straight to take a 21-18 lead. Each team scored three times to make it 24-21 and give TCU three chances to put away the set. But a pair of kills by Shelton and one by Salisbury tied the game at 24-all. The teams again swapped points before an ace by Hannasch and kill by Shelton put the Aztecs up 2-1 in the match.

Set four was just as close as the third with the scored tied at 19-19 before the Frogs scored three in a row on a pair of kills by Hester and an Aztec attack error. TCU held onto that three-point advantage the remainder of the set, eventually claiming victory on a kill by Raines. Hester led all players in the set with six kills while Hannasch, Salisbury and Sexton had four apiece for SDSU.

The fifth and deciding set saw San Diego State jump out to an 8-4 lead midway through the contest. TCU, however, fought back to within a point at 11-10. The Aztecs then got points on kills from Shelton and Peacock to go up 13-10, but the Frogs answered with kills by Hester and Hudson to get within a point once again. But one more kill from Peacock and a TCU attack error swung the set SDSU's way as it took the match 3-2.

Up next for San Diego is its first conference road swing of the season which beings on Thursday, Sept. 30, when they take on 18th-ranked Colorado State in Fort Collins at 7:00 p.m. (MT).
