The San Diego State cross country team heads north to Palo Alto, Calif., to compete in the 37th edition of the Stanford Invitational on Saturday. The Aztecs will run in the 6,000-meter race, which will begin at 11:30 a.m. PT on the Stanford Golf Course.

SDSU is coming off a sixth-place finish at the season-opening Aztec Invitational last Saturday (Sept. 18). San Diego State was led by Marianne Hogan, who recorded a sixth-place individual finish with a personal-best 5K cross country time of 18 minutes, 26.3 seconds. The time was the fastest by an Aztec runner at the home meet since 2005.

Sara Beyers (36th place, 19:30.0), Jordan Davis (46th, 19:50.5) and Alma Escobar (49th, 19:56.4) all placed in the top 50 with sub-20:00 times.

At last year's Stanford Invitational, SDSU took 20th out of 22 teams. Hogan led San Diego State over the 6K course in 23:03, which was good enough for 85th of 179 runners.

The Aztecs will have tough competition at the Stanford Invitational. Scheduled to run in the women's race include the host 13th-ranked Cardinal, as well as regionally ranked foes California, UC Davis, San Francisco, Loyola Marymount, UCLA, Cal Poly and Long Beach State.
