Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational Day One Results in PDF Format
The San Diego State men's golf team currently stands in third place through 36 holes at the season-opening Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational Monday at the par-72, 7,304-yard Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash. The Aztecs posted the low round of the first 18 holes with a 4-under 284 to lead the 13-team field by four strokes, but could not replicate that effort later in the afternoon, carding a second-round 4-over 292, to end up at even par with a 576. SDSU trails second place and host Washington by two strokes and is 10 behind day-one leader Pepperdine (10-under 566).
The Aztecs have three golfers in the top 20 and four of five in the top 22 in the 75-player field. Aztec sophomore Tom Berry (New Haw, England) is in a six-way tie for eighth place at 1-under 143, including an opening round of 71. Berry had 27 pars in the 36 holes, while also boasting six birdies, one bogey and two double bogeys.
SDSU junior Alex Kang (Oak Park, Calif.) was tied for the individual lead with a phenomenal first-round 4-under 68, logging no bogeys, four birdies and 14 pars. After notching birdies on two of his first four holes in the second round, Kang ran into trouble with a bogey on the fifth hole, followed by a triple bogey on the par-4 sixth. He would quadruple bogey the 10th hole, before regaining his composure with seven straight pars and a birdie on No. 18 to end up in a tie for 17th with a 1-over 145.
Kang is tied with Aztec freshman Todd Baek (Auckland, New Zealand), who made his collegiate debut with a solid 145, including an even-par second round. Baek was at 3-over through the first 10 holes of the second round, but battled to notch birdies on the 11th, 12th and 15th holes.
The team's lone senior Johan Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) is tied for 22nd place at 2-over 146, while junior J.J. Spaun (San Dimas, Calif.) rebounded from a first-round 82 by shaving eight strokes off his afternoon score to sit in 64th place.
The third and final round tees off Tuesday, beginning as early as 7:30 a.m. PT in Auburn. Live results are available via golfstat.com.
