The San Diego State men's soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to five games with a 1-1, double-overtime tie against Wisconsin-Milwaukee Sunday in Madison, Wis. The Aztecs improved to 4-1-1 on the season, while finishing the Middleton Sports and Fitness Invitational with a 1-0-1 record. Dayton also went 1-0-1, but won the tournament title due to goal differential (Dayton - +2, SDSU - +1).

Junior captain Daniel Steres (Calabasas, Calif.) earned the tournament's defensive most valuable player, while Steres, redshirt senior Brad Byrns (Alamo, Calif.) and sophomore Jose Altamirano (San Diego/Southwest HS) each garnered all-tournament honors.

Steres scored for the second straight game for San Diego State. The play began when Altamirano sent in a corner kick to Steres, who headed the ball inside the near post at the 42:06 mark.

The equalizer came after the Panthers (1-3-2) took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute off a goal by Andrew Wiedabach.

The Aztecs set a season high with 23 shots, including a career-high 10 (four on net) by senior captain Raymundo Reza (Denver, Colo.). Fellow classmate and captain Khadim Diouf (Dakar, Senegal) had five shots (two on net), while redshirt junior Justin Davies (San Diego/Brooks School (Mass.)) fired three attempts. Steres, redshirt juniors Andre Acevedo (San Diego/Eastlake HS) and Pedro Adan (San Diego/Preuss HS), and freshmen Casey Meuser (Granite Bay, Calif.) and Sean Zaher (Las Vegas, Nev.) added one shot apiece.

Reza had a good chance in the 80th minute but his attempt was blocked by a UWM defender at the goal line.

SDSU redshirt Byrns made a career-high 11 saves over 110:00 minutes.

San Diego State returns to action this weekend at the University of San Diego Nike Cup. The Aztecs play host to Houston Baptist at 4 p.m. PT Friday and Albany at noon PT Sunday.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Junior Daniel Steres (Calabasas, Calif.) earned Man of the Match honors after scoring SDSU's lone goal in the 1-1, double-overtime tie with Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It was the second straight game that Steres has scored a goal after the Aztecs defeated host Wisconsin, 1-0, on Friday. Steres played all 110 minutes vs. the Panthers and has played every minute of every match this season.
