Albuquerque, N.M. - In its first action of the 2010-11 season, the San Diego State women's golf team is in second place after 36 holes of the 31st annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational Friday in Albuquerque, N.M. The Aztecs posted a 7-over 591, including a first-round 294, and trail first place Ohio State by only four strokes at the par-73, 6,187-yard University of New Mexico Championship Course.

SDSU has two players in the top five on the individual leaderboard, including junior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who is one of only eight golfers to be under par through two rounds. Enarsson posted back-to-back 71s to finish up at 4-under 142, with nine birdies, 22 pars and five bogeys. She is currently tied for second place with two others, trailing UNLV's Therese Koelbaek, who leads the 92-player field at 6-under 140, by only two strokes.

Aztec sophomore Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.), meanwhile, is also under par and in the top five with a 3-under 143. Wong's first-round 70, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 ninth, put her in a tie for second place, before shooting a 73 in the afternoon to drop her slightly into a two-way tie for fifth.

Senior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) recorded an impressive rally in the second round, carding four birdies over a five-hole span to go from 6-over to 2-over with a 75. Arcala began the event with a first-round 76 and is tied for 25th with a 151.

SDSU sophomore Gina Clark (Palm Desert, Calif.), who is competing individually, is two strokes behind Arcala with a 153 and is tied for 37th, despite starting the day with a first-round 2-under 71.

Playing in their first tournaments as Aztecs, transfers Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) and Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.) are in 70th and 78th place, respectively.

San Diego State, which was ranked 28th nationally in the preseason Golfweek poll, concludes its first tournament of the campaign Saturday with the final 18 holes, beginning at 8 a.m. MT with a shotgun start. Live results will be available on golfstat.com.
