SAN DIEGO - Anna Gonzales, a three-time All-American at San Diego State from 2006-09, is set to play professional water polo in Italy for Mestrina Nuoto.

A native of Fresno, Calif., Gonzales will play her home games in Mestre, Italy, which is less than six miles from Venice. After winning the A2 Series title a year ago, Mestrina Nuoto now moves to the premier A1 Series this season.

Prior to her move to Italy, Gonzales played for the Hunter Hurricanes of the National League Water Polo Club based out of Australia. During her time "Down Under," Gonzales scored a team-best 51 goals.

In her four seasons on Montezuma Mesa, Gonzales etched her name in the Aztec record book. She finished her eligibility with 273 goals, five short of the SDSU all-time record, 123 assists, which ranks third, and 178 career steals, the sixth most in school history. She also helped San Diego State to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2007-08), marking the only two times the Aztecs have earned the right to compete for a national championship.
