SAN DIEGO - San Diego State freshman Ronnie Hillman (La Habra, Calif.) has been named preseason Freshman of the Year among players from non-automatic BCS qualifying conferences by ESPN college football blogger Andrea Adelson.
In her blog, Adelson noted that, "reports out of San Diego have already started gushing about Hillman, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound back who should give the rushing game a boost."
Dubbed the "Reggie Bush of Orange County" while at La Habra High, Hillman accounted for 2,104 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior and helped lead his team to the 2008 Freeway League Championship. He was listed as Orange County's No. 9 recruit among the class of 2009. Hillman currently sits atop the depth chart at running back for the Aztecs
Hillman's accolades are the latest praise given to the Aztecs this summer by ESPN. Last week, they were labeled as one of 2010's "surprise bowl teams," and were listed among the non-automatic qualifier conference's top 10 storylines to watch. Senior wide receiver Vincent Brown was also listed as the fourth-best NFL prospect among players from non-automatic qualifying conferences.
Hillman and the Aztecs kick off their season Saturday against Nicholls State on Sept 4. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m., and tickets start at only $5.
Single-game tickets for every home contest in 2010 are available online at GoAztecs.com and Ticketmaster.com, in person at the SDSU Qualcomm Stadium ticket office (window E), at any Southern California Ticketmaster outlet and by phone at 619-283-SDSU (7378).
