San Diego State traveled across the country to continue its season-long four-game road trip and ultimately fell to Central Florida, 2-0, at UCF Soccer Complex Friday evening. The Knights, who were receiving votes in the NSCAA top-25 poll, improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Aztecs drop to 1-2.

There were few quality scoring chances in the entire game, but especially in the first half as the teams combined for three shots on goal. Unfortunately SDSU, UCF capitalized early as Katie Jackson scored 5:16 into the contest. The Knights sent in a cross from the right side, which bounced around in the box, and the Aztecs were unable to clear the ball. Jackson then came in and recorded her first goal of the season to put San Diego State in its second consecutive early-game hole.

The Aztecs struggled to get their offense going, but they managed their first shot at 11:42 when Marisa Fraticelli blasted one toward the net. The attempt, however, was blocked and led to a San Diego State corner kick, which did not produce a goal.

Later in the half, Central Florida was on the attack and SDSU goalkeeper Aubree Southwick punched the ball out directly to the 20 where Stacie Hubbard corralled the ball. The Knight midfielder then placed her shot to the right post from the penalty-kick area and found the back of the net to put the home team up 2-0, a lead that UCF would take into halftime.

Early in the second half, San Diego State looked as if its offense was getting into a rhythm as Michaela DeJesus fired a shot that went high, but UCF stifled every Aztec possession for the next 11-plus minutes. SDSU's second attempt of the half came with nearly 30 minutes left in regulation when DeJesus blasted another shot that went wide of the net. After that, and for the whole second half for that matter, the two teams played even and the Knights picked up the victory.

The Aztecs continue their school-record-long season-opening four-game road trip on Sunday at ninth-ranked Florida. SDSU and UF will take the pitch at 1:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT.
