Aztec Softball Names Stacey Nuveman Deniz Assistant Head Coach

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head softball coach Kathy Van Wyk announced that Stacey Nuveman Deniz has been promoted to the position of assistant head coach.

Nuveman Deniz joined the Aztec coaching ranks in 2008 and serves as the team's recruiting coordinator, while working predominantly with the Aztec hitters.

Nuveman Deniz is a three-time Olympic medalist, winning gold in 2000 and 2004, and silver at the 2008 games in Beijing. She's also helped the United States National Team to a World Cup championship (2006), two World Championships (2002 and 2006) and two Pan American gold medals (1999 and 2003).

She was a four-time first-team NCFA All American and a three-time Pac -10 Player of the Year while at UCLA, finishing her career with four NCAA records - 90 home runs, 299 RBI, .945 slugging percentage and 240 walks.

In Nuveman Deniz' two years on Montezuma Mesa, the softball team has enjoyed a wealth of success, finishing 57-34 the last two seasons and advancing to the NCAA Regionals in 2010. SDSU has been selected to three straight NCAA tournaments for the first time in the program's history.
