SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State football team will hold its first and only intrasquad scrimmage of 2010 fall camp on Saturday, Aug. 21, at its on-campus practice facility.
The Aztecs are slated to begin the day with a practice session, starting at 3:30 p.m. The actual scrimmage will start at 4:30 p.m., and is scheduled to run for approximately 45 minutes. The event is free and open to the public, however, fans should purchase a permit to park in Structure 5, which is located just east of the practice field at the corner of 55th Street and Montezuma Road.
Saturday marks the only time fans can see second-year head coach Brady Hoke's team in action before its Sept. 4 season opener versus Nicholls State at Qualcomm Stadium.
The Aztecs have garnered preseason attention from numerous outlets throughout fall camp. Senior Vincent Brown was named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, which is given to the nation's best wide receiver, and senior Alston Umuolo has been included on the Mackey Award Watch List, which is awarded annually to the country's top tight end. The Aztecs' receiving corps has recently been named the 11th-best receiving unit in the country by Rivals.com.
The Red and Black also return eight defensive starters in their second year under defensive coordinator Rocky Long. In their first year playing in Long's 3-3-5 system, the Aztecs improved in a number of defensive categories, including total defense, scoring, sacks and interceptions.
Single-game tickets for every home contest in 2010 are available online at GoAztecs.com and Ticketmaster.com, in person at the SDSU Qualcomm Stadium ticket office (window E), at any Southern California Ticketmaster outlet and by phone at 619-283-SDSU (7378).
