SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team added a key player to their roster, landing Rebecca Arbino, head coach Kathy Van Wyk announced Tuesday.

A native of Clovis, Calif., Arbino spent two seasons (2009-10) at Big 12 power Texas A&M, where she was one of the team's top pitchers. Arbino, who will redshirt the 2011 season, led the Aggies to NCAA appearances in each of her two years at College Station.

"Rebecca brings a wealth of experience from competing in the Big 12," Van Wyk said. "This year she will help us become a better hitting team."

Last year, Arbino went 19-10 with a 2.47 ERA, leading the team in games started (28), wins (19, tied), shutouts (9), saves (1, tied), innings pitched (187.0), strikeouts (144) and opponents batting average (.215). In March, Arbino led Texas A&M to a 5-0 record at the San Diego Classic II. Arbino pitched in four of those wins, going 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA over 27.0 innings. She struck out 18 and walked three.

In 2009, Arbino was 12-8 with a 2.88 ERA over 129.0 innings. She was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on May 5 and the Florida Atlantic University Classic MVP (March 13-15).

Arbino joins a staff that includes 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Third-Team All-American Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS), 2009 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.), 2010 opening game starter Brooke Petty (San Diego/Vista HS) and two-time high school All-American Kamerin May (Corona, Calif). In addition, local talent Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) signed a National Letter of Intent in November and will be joining the Aztecs for the 2010-11 academic year.
