Five nationally-televised games and back-to-back home dates to start the league slate highlight the San Diego State women's basketball team's 2011 Mountain West Conference schedule, Aztec head coach Beth Burns announced Tuesday.

The reigning MWC champion Aztecs begin their quest for another conference crown when they play host to two of league's top teams in TCU on Wednesday, Jan. 5, and Utah on Saturday, Jan. 8, both at Viejas Arena. The match-up with the Utes will be the first of SDSU's five regular-season league outings that will be televised live on The Mtn. in 2011.

"To face TCU, the defending regular-season champions and odds on favorite to win the league, right out of the gate sets a great tone for the conference season and provides us with an early opportunity to measure ourselves," Burns said. "This year's team has a lot to prove and if their summer preparations are any indication, they will be eager to attack both our most challenging non-conference slate and always formidable MWC schedule. The bar will be set very high and we wouldn't have it any other way."

The Aztecs' first conference road game will also be shown on The Mtn., as the team heads east to UNLV on Jan. 11, to take on the Lady Rebels at 8 p.m. PT in Las Vegas, Nev. SDSU returns to San Diego for its third home contest in its first four league games when it tangles with New Mexico on Saturday, Jan. 15.

Following a road contest at Air Force on Jan. 19, the Aztecs will have a week to prepare for their Jan. 26 meeting with Brigham Young at Viejas Arena. SDSU finishes out the first round of league action with a televised road game at Wyoming on Jan. 29, followed by a home contest with Colorado State on Feb. 2.

The month of February will have the Aztecs on the road four times to three different states, before finishing up the 12th season of Mountain West Conference play with a senior night contest with Wyoming (March 2) and the regular-season finale at CSU (March 5).

The 2011 Conoco Mountain West Conference Championship will be held in Las Vegas, Nev., for the fifth-straight year and the ninth time overall on March 8-12, at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The Aztecs' complete non-conference schedule will be released at a later date.

SDSU returns three starters from its 2009-10 squad that went 23-11 overall, advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, won the MWC tournament championship and ended the campaign ranked 20th nationally. The Aztecs were one of six MWC squads to advance to the postseason a year ago, matching a conference record.
