SAN DIEGO - San Diego State will play host to the Australian national softball team in a doubleheader Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at SDSU Softball Stadium. Australia, which finished with the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will play StormUSA at 5 p.m. PT and San Diego Elite All-Stars at 7 p.m. PT as part of its World Championship Tour in California.

The tour, which will run from June 10-21, will prepare the "Aussie Spirit" for the 2010 International Softball Federation (ISF) XII Women's World Championships, which will be held June 23-July 2 in Caracas, Venezuela.

In the nightcap, Australia will take on the San Diego Elite All-Stars, a team that will have two former Aztecs on their roster and four current student-athletes, including 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Third-Team All-American Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS). Other current SDSU players include second-team all-region and all-MWC selection Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS), Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) and Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS). Three-time all-MWC pick and two-time all-region selection Brittany Knudsen (San Diego/Escondido HS) and 2006 all-MWC honoree Monica Alnes (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) are also on the Elite All-Stars after leading San Diego State to three NCAA tournament appearances over their career.

Other members of the San Diego Elite All-Stars include San Diego's Taylor Hensley, Brigham Young's Cashjen Davis-Atagi, Loyola Marymount's Jennifer Nayadu and Lee University's Danielle Balough.

The first game, meanwhile, will feature Australia and StormUSA, an ASA team also consisting of NCAA Division I players. Some of the StormUSA players include first-team All-American Jen Mineau of Fordham and third-team member Whitney Kiihnl (Lipscomb). The squad also boasts 2010 MWC Player of the Year Angeline Quiocho (Brigham Young) and UNLV's Jessica O'Connor.

Tickets for the event are $5 for adults and $3 for youths 17 and under. Seats are limited for the doubleheader and the stadium gates will open at 3 p.m. PT. For more information, visit www.StormUSA.org/SanDiego.html.
