SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team recorded its first shutout of the season, defeating UC Riverside, 7-0, at the Aztec Tennis Center Friday morning. The win was a season-high third straight for the Aztecs, which have now won five of their last six matches.
San Diego State claimed the doubles point, with victories at number one and number three doubles. Giovanni Vaglietti and Achim Vladimirschii won at number one doubles and Andre Feliz and Tim Schulz van Endert were victorious for the Aztecs at number three doubles.
The Aztecs won all six singles matches, including five in straight sets. The lone match that was extended past two sets was at number four singles, where sophomore Luis Rattenhuber rallied to defeat Mike Conroy, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (8).
Of the 12 singles sets won by SDSU, six were recorded without surrendering a single game.
San Diego State is now 7-11 on the season, while UC Riverside is 3-13. There is little time to rest for the Aztecs. They will hit the courts less than three hours after defeating the Highlanders to face Air Force at the Aztec Tennis Center. Match time is set for 3 p.m. PT.
