SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team won its fourth straight match and completed a perfect day of tennis on Friday with a 7-0 victory over Mountain West Conference opponent Air Force at the Aztec Tennis Center.
The Aztecs, who earlier in the day defeated UC Riverside, 7-0, made easy work of the Falcons, winning all nine matches without dropping a set and losing just 19 games in 12 singles sets.
San Diego State improved to 8-11 overall and remained perfect in Mountain West Conference play at 2-0. The Falcons fell to 10-8 overall and 0-3 in MWC play.
San Diego State earned the doubles point with Giovanni Vaglietti and Achim Vladimirschii winning at number one, 8-1 and Jakub Kowlaski and Tim Schulz van Endert at number three doubles, 8-4. The Aztecs' nationally-ranked doubles duo of Juan Gomez and Luis Rattenhuber made it a clean sweep for the Red and Black with an 8-6 victory at number two.
Singles action didn't take long, as the Aztec lineup posted six straight-set victories. Among the more impressive victories were Schulz van Endert at number five (6-0, 6-0), Vladimirschii at number one (6-1, 6-0) and Vaglietti at number three (6-2, 6-0).
San Diego State will return to action on Sunday when the Aztecs face defending MWC champion, New Mexico. First serve at the Aztec Tennis Center is scheduled for 11 a.m. PT. Admission is free.
