SAN DIEGO - Junior Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) struck out 12 in a two-hit shutout to lift the San Diego State softball team to a 4-0 victory over San Diego Saturday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs improved to 22-10 on the season and 48-3 all-time against the Toreros (11-18).

Beasley (17-6) struck out 12 of the 24 batters she faced over the seven innings, allowing two singles and no walks. She now has 16 career double-digit strikeout games, including seven this season.

Beasley was backed by an offense that had eight hits, including five infield singles. Sophomore Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) had two hits and scored a run, while classmate Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS/Cal State Bakersfield) doubled and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Redshirt senior Monica Alnes (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and freshman Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) each added an RBI for SDSU, which improved to 20-0 this season when outhitting its opponent.

Reifschneider got things going in the bottom of the first inning when she singled and moved to second on junior Jessica Camello's (Temecula, Calif.) single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Maeva's second sac fly of the season scored Reifschneider one batter later.

After being held hitless over the next two innings by USD pitcher Jennifer Ellenbeck, SDSU broke out with three hits en route to a three-run fourth. Knudsen singled and Maeva followed with a double to center field. Alnes' single through the left side scored Knudsen, before a pair of pinch runners - senior Stefanie Quichocho-Rosario (San Diego/Morse HS) and redshirt freshman Roshana Lavery (San Diego/Mission Bay HS) - scored on May's sac fly and an illegal pitch.

San Diego's hits came from Ellenbeck in the second and Danielle Duhart in the sixth.

San Diego State kicks off the Mountain West Conference portion of its schedule Friday against New Mexico at 6 p.m. PT at SDSU Softball Stadium.
