COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) has once again been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the seventh weekly award of the season for the right-hander and the 11th of her career.
Beasley (21-6) tossed her eighth solo shutout of the season in the Aztecs' only game of the weekend, a 4-0 victory at UNLV on Saturday. She had 11 strikeouts, her 10th double-digit strikeout game of the season and 19th of her career, and allowed five hits (four singles) and two walks (one intentional). The Rebels, who batted .208 (5-for-24) on the day, came into the weekend with the eighth-highest batting average (.331) in the country. Beasley is 16-1 with a 0.54 ERA since Feb. 27 (103 1/3 innings).
On the season, Beasley is 21-6 with a 0.71 ERA over 157 2/3 innings. She has 260 strikeouts, 11 shutouts (eight solo) and a save, while limiting the opposition to a .156 batting average.
Among the national leaders, Beasley ranks second in ERA, ninth in strikeouts per seven innings (11.54), 14th in hits allowed per seven innings (3.82), T-16th in victories and 26th in walks allowed per seven innings (1.38). Despite the national rankings, Beasley was not chosen as one of the 2010 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 25 Finalists.
