For the second consecutive year, a San Diego State women's golfer garnered Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year honors, as Aztec Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) claimed the award and was also named to the all-conference team at the conclusion of this week's league championships in Seaside, Calif. Wong and her teammates ended up in fifth place at the MWC tournament with a 69-over 933, including a low round of 308 Saturday at the par-72, 6,009-yard Black Horse Golf Course.

Wong joins sophomore Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who was also named the league's freshman of the year in 2009, as the only Aztecs to earn an individual player-of-the-year award in the MWC's 11-year history. Wong is the fifth SDSU golfer to be named to the all-conference team and is only the second, along with Enarsson who accomplished the feat last season, to make it since 2004.

The Canadian entered this weekend's action with the third-best stroke average in the conference (73.78), won a pair of individual titles at the Price's Give `Em Five Invite and the Hurricane Invitational, and placed in the top five on four occasions. Wong is only the second Aztec to be named MWC Golfer of the Month twice in one season.

At the 2010 MWC championships, Enarsson matched her finish from a year ago, placing 10th overall to lead the team with a 14-over 230. Enarsson improved by one stroke on her 54-hole total from a year ago and was the only Aztec with three sub-80 rounds.

Junior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) moved up the individual standings for the second day in a row, going from 18th place into a tie for 16th at 18-over 234, including a final round 78. Wong, meanwhile, posted her best effort of the tournament with the team's low-round on Saturday with a 4-over 76 to move her into 27th overall with a 239.

Aztec junior Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.), who had a team-best four birdies, came in 28th at 24-over 240, and freshman freshman Gina Clark (Palm Desert, Calif.) took 29th with a 245 in her MWC tournament debut.

New Mexico, ranked 21st nationally, won its third consecutive team title and its seventh overall with a 21-over 597, beating second place and No. 22 TCU by 11 strokes. Lobo Jodi Ewart, who was named the conference's player of the year, captured medalist honors by four strokes with a 1-over 217.

The San Diego State women's golf team will wait until April 26 to see if it will earn its first NCAA regional bid since 2004.
