Aztec Softball Travels to UNLV Saturday For Battle of MWC Unbeaten Teams
The San Diego State softball team travels to UNLV Saturday (1 p.m. PT) for a solo game in a meeting between a pair of undefeated teams in Mountain West Conference play. The Aztecs (25-10, 3-0 MWC), who are ranked 23rd of 290 schools in the first edition of the RPI and are receiving votes in both national polls, have won 17 of their last 19 games. UNLV, meanwhile, is 26-14 overall and also 3-0 in the MWC.
SDSU went 3-0 in the first week of league play, outscoring the opposition, 21-3. Included in the wins was a 6-1 victory over Colorado State on CBS College Sports.
The San Diego State offense is batting .299 through its first 35 games, a mark which would be a school record if the season ended today. Jessica Camello leads the team with a .422 average and a .486 on-base percentage, while Brittany Knudsen is hitting .402 with team-bests in hits (41), doubles (6, tied), walks (14, tied) and sacrifice bunts (6, tied). Justeen Maeva (.355, 3 HR) leads the squad with 28 RBIs and a .559 slugging percentage, Felicia Reifschneider (.393) has a team-high 30 runs, and Jen Wisneski (.276) has four home runs, all over her last 40 at-bats.
Samantha Beasley ranks among the top-20 in the nation in seven categories, including ERA (2nd, 0.74), strikeouts per seven innings (9th, 11.57) and strikeouts (10th, 249), while Bailey Micetich (2.80 ERA) has three saves.
