LAS VEGAS - The San Diego State women's tennis team won its second match in as many days after it defeated New Mexico, 6-1, at Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV Saturday morning. The Aztecs evened their record at 9-9 with their performance and improved to 2-3 in Mountain West Conference action.

For the fourth time this year, SDSU swept through doubles play and earned a 1-0 lead heading into singles. Roxanne and Sierra Ellison were the first tandem off the court after they disposed of Anya Villanueva and Ashley Bonner, 8-2, at first doubles. The Aztecs clinched the point later when Alicia Aguilar and Olivia Colman beat their New Mexico counterparts, 8-5, at No. 3. Then Julia Trunk and Julia Wais made it a clean sweep with their 8-5 victory at No. 2.

San Diego State increased its lead to 2-0 when Colman defeated Amy Shipperd in straight sets at the sixth position, 6-2, 6-1. The Lobos made an effort to make it a match when Bonner beat Sierra Ellison at No. 4, to cut the Aztec lead to 2-1, but Emma Cioffi responded with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Manumea Durie at No. 5 to bring SDSU to within a point of the team victory.

With three matches to go and one win needed to escape Las Vegas with a victory, Wais provided the Aztecs the decision it needed as she downed Kristin Eggleston, 6-4, 6-0, at the second spot. Then to put the final touches on their second MWC win of the year, Roxanne Ellison and No. 50 Julia Trunk won their respective matches at Nos. 3 and 1.

San Diego State returns to the courts on Thursday when it plays host to Colorado State at Aztec Tennis Center. The first of four straight matches at home is set for a 2 p.m. PT start.
