SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State volleyball team got its spring season off to a good start by going 2-1-1 in four matches at its own tournament played in Peterson Gym on March 27. The Aztecs played eight sets against four other squads (two sets apiece) and finished with a 5-3 record in those contests.

The four other teams competing in the SDSU tourney included Fresno State University, Southern Methodist, University of San Diego and a group of San Diego State Alumni (the "Extecs").

Aztec sophomore outside hitter Kyley Sexton had a big offensive day as she lead her team with 32 kills on 68 attempts for a .324 hitting percentage, She also accounted for four service aces on the day.

Freshman middle blocker also stepped up with 20 kills, hitting .298 and filling a defensive role with 13 digs.

"The team has been working very hard this spring," commented SDSU Head Coach Deitre Collins-Parker. "It's fun to see them competing hard and improving in every aspect of the game. All in all I feel we had good results for the day."

The Aztecs' set scores against their four opponents during the one-day tournament were as follows:
vs. SDSU Alumni ("Extecs"): 25-18, 25-23
vs. Fresno State: 25-23, 25-23
vs. Southern Methodist: 16-25, 25-23
vs. University of San Diego: 16-25, 22-25

The Aztecs now have two weeks to prepare for their second spring tournament which will be hosted by University of San Diego on Saturday, April 17th.
