SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - San Diego State senior Jené Morris (San Francisco, Calif.) capped her illustrious Aztec basketball career by being named an honorable mention State Farm Coaches' Division I All-American for the second year in a row. Morris, who is among 30 honorable mention picks announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Saturday, joins Falisha Wright (1993-94) as the only two-time All-American in program history.
Morris led the Mountain West Conference in scoring in both overall (17.1 ppg.) and conference-only (18.4 ppg.) outings and ranked first in the league in steals for the third consecutive season with 25 more takeaways than her nearest rival. The 5-9 guard claimed MWC Defensive Player-of-the-Year honors for the second year in a row and is the first Aztec to be tabbed first team all-conference twice in the last 13 seasons.
A team co-captain, Morris helped lead the Aztecs to their first-ever Mountain West Conference championship title, back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances and upsets of No. 17 Texas and No. 10 West Virginia en route to the Sweet 16 and a 23-11 overall record in 2009-10.
The San Francisco native along with her family and SDSU head coach Beth Burns will travel to New Jersey next week as one of 14 invitees to the WNBA Draft announcement on Thursday, April 8, beginning at noon PT.
