Freshman Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) drove in three runs, and junior Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) and freshman Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) combined for a two-hit shutout to give the San Diego State softball team a 5-0 victory over Northern Illinois Tuesday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs, who are receiving votes in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball national polls, improved to 12-8 with the victory, while the Huskies dropped to 1-9.

SDSU has won four consecutive games, outscoring its opponents, 19-2, during the stretch.

Kristin May had two hits, including a double, and three RBI, while sophomore Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS/Cal State Bakersfield) (sacrifice fly) and junior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) (single) each drove in a run. Senior Brittany Knudsen (San Diego/Escondido HS) scored twice and redshirt junior Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) singled and drew a walk.

San Diego State got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning when Maeva reached on a throwing error by the NIU third baseman and advanced to second. Senior Stefanie Quichocho-Rosario (San Diego/Morse HS) replaced Maeva at second and scored on Kristin May's single to right field.

The Aztecs kept the pressure up in the third inning, loading the bases with one out. Maeva hit a deep fly ball to center that allowed sophomore Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) to score. Kristin May followed with a two-run double to plate Knudsen and redshirt senior Monica Alnes (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.), giving SDSU a 4-0 advantage.

An infield single by Camello in the fifth scored Knudsen with the final run of the game.

The runs were plenty for Beasley (8-5) and Kamerin May, who didn't allow a Northern Illinois player past first base. Beasley gave up two hits and a walk over five innings, striking out eight. Making just her second appearance in the circle all season, Kamerin May logged two perfect innings of relief.

San Diego State plays host to Buffalo at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
