LA JOLLA, Calif. - The San Diego State track and field team competed at the San Diego City Championships Saturday on the campus of UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif. Fresh off their best finish in a MWC indoor championship meet since 2004, the Aztecs took third with 135.5 points despite holding back many of its top competitors, including four-time All-American Karoline Koehler, two-time All-American Stephanie James and 400-meter star Nicole Stone.
SDSU won four individual events on the day, including Jessika Hornsby in the 200-meter dash, Katie Morgan in the pole vault, Maria Rodriguez in the shot put and Jeanette McConnell in the discus throw.
Six others finished runner-up in their respective event, including Kai Wheeler (400), Josefine Koskinen (1,500), Kelsy Hintz (pole vault), Robyn Guzman (discus throw), McConnell (hammer throw) and Moriah Roberge (javelin).
Koehler and James will head to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., while the rest of the team will compete in San Diego State's lone home meet of the season the Aztec Invitational.
