The San Diego State softball team shut out No. 22/21 Fresno State, 8-0, in six innings Saturday at the San Diego Classic I. It was the third consecutive victory for the Aztecs (11-8), all against teams who are nationally ranked or receiving votes in either the USA Today/NFCA or ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.

SDSU was up, 2-1, in the third inning of its second game against Wisconsin until rain and inclement weather canceled the game and the rest of Saturday's action at both the SDSU Softball Stadium and USD Softball Complex. Sunday will go on as scheduled.

Against the Bulldogs (10-7), San Diego State rattled off 13 hits, while taking advantage of three Fresno State errors in the rout. The Aztecs scored a run in the first, second, fourth and fifth, before ending the game with a four-run sixth inning.

Sophomore Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS/Cal State Bakersfield) continued her hot start to the season, by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Sophomore Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) had two hits and scored three times, twice off the bat of Maeva, while juniors Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) and Eva Sahatdjian (Fresno, Calif.) each had two hits apiece. Redshirt senior Monica Alnes (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) added two RBI.

The runs were plenty for junior pitcher Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS), who tossed her fourth shutout of the season. Beasley (7-5) allowed four hits and no walks over six innings, while striking out four. She only ran into one jam, when Fresno State got runners to first and second with one out. Beasley ended the threat by striking out Nicole Angene and pinch hitter Alexis Lujan, keeping the shutout intact.

Reifschneider scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first when she singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Brittany Knudsen (San Diego/Escondido HS). One batter later, Maeva laced a tailing ball to right-center field for the RBI double to get SDSU on the board.

In the second inning, redshirt freshman Roshana Lavery (San Diego/Mission Bay HS) scored on a double-steal attempt after Camello stayed in a rundown long enough to allow Lavery to easily score. Lavery had replaced Sahatdjian after a single.

After being retired in order in the third, senior Stefanie Quichocho-Rosario (San Diego/Morse HS) reached third in the fourth inning on a Camello single and scored on a subsequent fielding error by the Bulldog pitcher.

In the fifth, Reifschneider made it to second on a fielding error by the Bulldog shortstop. After Knudsen's second sacrifice of the game, Alnes plated Reifschneider with a single to left field.

San Diego State completed its first run-rule of the season with four runs in the sixth, as redshirt junior Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) (fielder's choice), junior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif. (double), Alnes (bases loaded walk) and Maeva (single) each drove in a run.

Weather permitting; the Aztecs will take on No. 5/5 UCLA Sunday at 2 p.m. PT.
