The San Diego State softball team rallied from an early 2-0 deficit by scoring the final five runs of the game in a 5-2 victory over Oregon Friday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs improved to 10-8 on the season with their second victory over the Ducks (13-5) this year.

Oregon got out to the 2-0 lead in the second inning when Monique Fuiava led off with a homer and Kelsey Chambers later scored on a wild pitch by SDSU sophomore pitcher Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.).

San Diego State cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second when senior Stefanie Quichocho-Rosario (San Diego/Morse HS) scored on a fielding error by Duck third baseman Courtney Kivett.

The Aztecs, however, put together a three-run rally in the third, highlighted by a two-run triple by redshirt senior Monica Alnes (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.). Sophomore Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS/Cal State Bakersfield) followed with a single to put SDSU up for good.

Senior Brittany Knudsen (San Diego/Escondido HS) knocked home sophomore Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) with a single in the sixth for the final run of the game.

The five runs were plenty for Micetich (2-3), who settled down after the two-run second. In the third, she got out of a bases loaded jam and was perfect the rest of the way, retiring the final 13 batters she faced. For the game, she allowed two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings, while striking out four. Oregon came into the weekend with a .323 team batting average.

Reifschneider (two runs) and Knudsen (one run) each had three hits and stole a base, while Maeva was 2-for-3 with a double. Alnes and freshman Tanya Holguin's (Woodland, Calif.) hits gave the first five in San Diego State's batting order a .588 (10-for-17) average for the night.

The Aztecs resume their play in the San Diego Classic I with games against No. 22/21 Fresno State (2 p.m.) and Wisconsin (4:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
