FULLERTON, Calif. - Junior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) homered and the San Diego State softball team overcame a season-high five errors in a 2-1 victory over Cal State Fullerton Wednesday afternoon in Fullerton, Calif. The Aztecs, who are receiving votes in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball national polls, improved to 21-9 and have won 13 of their last 14 games.
Wisneski led off the top of the third inning with a solo homer to put SDSU up to an early 1-0 lead. It was her second of the season and third of her career.
The Titans (5-27) answered in the fourth when Shelia Holguin doubled in Ariel Tsuchiyama.
San Diego State responded with the go-ahead run in the fifth as senior Brittany Knudsen's (San Diego/Escondido HS) infield single scored the speedy Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) from second base.
Junior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) singled twice to raise her batting average to a team-high .431, while Reifschneider walked twice, stole a pair of bases and scored for the Aztecs.
SDSU's Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) and Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) combined to strand 10 CSUF baserunners in the win. Micetich got the start and allowed one unearned run on four hits and a walk over 3 1/3 innings, while striking out one. Beasley (16-6) picked up the win after giving up just one hit and a walk over 3 2/3 scoreless frames. She struck out seven and now has an even 200 on the season in 123 2/3 innings.
San Diego State travels to San Diego for a game at 6 p.m. Friday.
