SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State crew team saw all three of its entries finish among the top four in its morning races at the 37th annual San Diego Crew Classic being contested on Mission Bay in San Diego this weekend. Those results meant that all three boats moved on to the Petite Final of their respective classes.
The Aztec Collegiate Novice rowers finished third (of six) in their opening heat with a time of 7:57.35. UCLA took first place in the race in 7:32.70. That finish allowed SDSU to advance to the Novice Petite final late Saturday afternoon where they finished fourth of six boats with a mark of 7:37.37.
SDSU's Novice boat was crewed by Marissa Caldarella (coxswain), Angela Strohbeck (stroke), Caelie Fish (seven), Kate Sanders (six), Romaine Desclos (five), Kirsten Atkinson (four), Sara Bresse (three), Morgan Gleason (two) and Natalie Marroquin (bow).
In the Aztecs' first event of the day they captured fourth place (of seven) in the Women's Collegiate Varsity B Heat in 7:21.55. SDSU's Women's Collegiate Junior Varsity boat also took fourth place in its heat with a time of 7:33.10.
Both of those two SDSU boats will compete in the Petite final on Sunday with the Collegiate Junior Varsity race at 8:10 a.m. and the Collegiate Varsity race scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
