BYU Dixie Classic Results in PDF Format
The San Diego State women's golf team won the BYU Dixie Classic on Tuesday to capture its first team title of 2009-10. The Aztecs, who had five players place in the top 11 of the 75-player field, finished with a 26-over-par 890, which was 15 strokes better than second-place and 27th-ranked Louisville. The championship marks the program's first since 2007 when it won the Lady Braveheart Invitational in Beaumont, Calif.
Malin Enarsson, who entered the day in third place, maintained her position in the final standings and posted a third-round score of 75 (+3). For the tournament, the sophomore logged a 54-hole score of 3-over-par 219 to finish five strokes back of the tournament champion.
Freshman Christine Wong, meanwhile, moved up three spots to finish alone in fifth place. The Richmond, B.C., native fired an even-par 72 to stay at 5-over (221) for the tourney. Wong's final-round score was her best of her three rounds at Entrada at Snow Canyon and was the Aztecs' top score on Tuesday.
A local product out of Oceanside, Calif., Stephanie Arcala entered the day in fifth place, but shot a 4-over 76 on the final 18 to finish in eighth place. Gina Clark and Samantha Roberts, meanwhile, wrapped up their days with scores of 78 (+6) and 76 (+4), respectively to finish in a tie for 11th place. Clark posted a three-round total of 229 (+13) to move up one spot in the standings, while Roberts jumped seven spots from her first-day position (t-18th).
In addition to beating the No. 27 Cardinals, SDSU posted wins over No. 25 Oklahoma State and Mountain West Conference foes Colorado State, Brigham Young and Wyoming. This is San Diego State's fifth top-10 effort this season and its fourth top-5 performance under first-year head coach Emilee Klein.
The Aztecs return to action March 29-30 when they compete at the Anteater Invitational in Dove Canyon, Calif.
