March 22, 2010

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Malin Enarsson and junior Stephanie Arcala each placed among the top five individually, pacing the Aztec women's golf team to the lead Monday after 36 holes at the 13-team BYU Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah.

After finishing the first round one stroke behind 27th-ranked Louisville, the Aztecs shot a field best 296 in the second round to take an eight-stroke lead over the Cardinals. Colorado State is in third place, 14 strokes behind the Aztecs. The host school, Brigham Young, is 25 shots back in fifth place and 25th-ranked Oklahoma State is in 11th position, 48 shots behind SDSU.

San Diego State showed remarkable depth on the day, placing two golfers among the top five individually, three in the top eight and four among the top 12. All five Aztec golfers carded two-round scores of 153 or better.

Enarsson fired a 1-under 71 in the morning round and followed it up with a 1-over 73. The two-round score of 144, is good enough for third place, six shots behind the tournament's overall leader, Brigham Young's Maggie Yuan.

Arcala posted rounds of 73 and 74 to end the day in fifth place at 3-over. Freshman Christine Wong is in a tie for eighth place after 36 holes, at 5-over, while classmate Gina Clark is in 12th place at 7-over.
