SAN DIEGO - The 14th-ranked San Diego State water polo team dominated the second day of the Aztec Invitational presented by Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central by defeating Maryland, 10-4, and Cal State Bakersfield, 9-3.

SDSU showcased its outstanding defense holding the Terrapins to only one goal each quarter and only allowing Bakersfield to score three goals.

The Aztecs started off the day with a close match during the first quarter against Maryland, with Meaghan Poland and Meghann Pedersen scoring for the Aztecs and providing San Diego State with a lead 2-1. Then in the second quarter, the Aztecs scored three consecutive goals to pull away from the Terps and eventually headed into halftime with a 7-3 lead.

Poland and Amber Pezzolla each scored three goals, while Melissa de Jonckheere, Alex Ford, Samantha Voight and Meghann Pederson all added one goal to the 10-4 Aztec win over Maryland.

Leanne Ford led the second game against Cal State Bakersfield with four goals. Sarah Brady followed with two goals as de Jonckheere, Pederson and Kimmy Keach each added a goal to the 9-3 victory.

The Aztecs return to action Friday, March 19, when they travel to Los Angeles for the LMU Invitational.
