SAN DIEGO - Fresno State broke open a scoreless game with six runs in the fourth inning en route to a comfortable 10-3 victory over San Diego State during day three of the 2010 Aztec Invitational at Tony Gwynn Stadium. For the second straight night, SDSU had few answers in the way of offense after falling behind.

The Bulldogs' fourth-inning outburst came as the result of a leadoff walk followed by three consecutive singles and a double that made it 3-0. A two-run triple to right by Daniel Moultrie and an RBI ground out by Austin Wynns accounted for the other three runs in the frame.

All six of those Fresno State runs came off Aztec starter Ryan Wynveen, who despite giving up a pair of hits early, had faced the minimum of nine batters over the first three innings. The second time through the lineup, however, was a different story as the visitors got base hits to all fields.

Wynveen, who retired one batter in that fourth inning, was removed from the game after 3.1 innings of work during which he allowed the six runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts. In the process he saw his record drop to 0-2 on the year.

San Diego State had chances to get on the board in the third through fifth innings against FSU starter Josh Poytress, but could not come up with the clutch hit. In the bottom of the fourth, SDSU loaded the bases with no outs on a walk to Jordan Van Hoosier and singles by Cory Vaughn and Blake Silguero. But Poytress induced Matt Parker to hit a ground to third that became a fielder's choice out at the plate before Chris Wilson hit into a double play to erase the threat.

Two innings later the visitors added three runs to their lead to make it 9-0 before the Aztecs finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Vaughn led off with a walk, stole second and went to third on a fly out to center before coming home on Wilson's two-out single.

SDSU added its other two runs in the next inning without the benefit of a hit as three Bulldog hurlers issued a total of five walks in the frame with RBI base on balls going to Vaughn and Silguero. Poytress would be charged with all three SDSU runs in the contest during his 6.1 innings as he picked up the win to improve to 2-1.

Vaughn and Josh Chasse ended the night with two hits apiece as they accounted for four of SDSU's seven hits. The Aztecs left a total of 13 runners on bases on the night including at least two in five different innings.

San Diego State concludes play in the Aztec Invitational on Sunday, March 14, when it faces San Francisco at 3:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. That contest will be preceded by UAB taking on Cal State Fullerton in a contest scheduled fro an 11:00 a.m. start.
