COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Thursday. It is the third weekly award for the righthander and the seventh of her career.
Beasley helped the Aztecs to a 3-0 record last weekend at the San Diego Classic I with all the wins coming against nationally ranked teams (No. 22/21 Fresno State) or teams receiving votes (UTEP and Oregon). She was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA over 13 innings, striking out 17 without issuing a walk. Beasley had two complete game shutouts and limited her opponents to just five hits and a .119 batting average.
On Thursday, Beasley tossed a complete game one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts as SDSU defeated UTEP, 1-0. The only hit she allowed was an infield single in the fifth. It was her second one-hit, 13-strikeout performance of the season (UCSB).
On Saturday, Beasley held No. 21/22 Fresno State to just four hits over six innings in another shutout and 8-0 Aztec victory. She struck out four.
On the season, Beasley is 9-5 with a 0.70 ERA over 80 1/3 innings. She has 124 strikeouts to just 13 walks, while holding her opponents to a .159 batting average.
