The San Diego State women's basketball team advanced to the Mountain West Conference tournament semifinals for the third straight season, as the third-seeded Aztecs take on the No. 2 seed Brigham Young Cougars, beginning at 2:30 p.m. PT Friday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev.

SDSU used a late 12-2 run to win its first game of the MWC championships for the third year in a row, defeating No. 6 seed Wyoming on Wednesday, 60-51. The victory moved the team one game closer to securing its second consecutive 20-win campaign, a feat the program has not accomplished since head coach Beth Burns' first stint on The Mesa.

The Aztecs and Cougars spilt the 2010 regular season series, with each squad winning on its home floor. BYU claimed the earlier meeting in January, 73-63, in Provo, but SDSU came back to down BYU, 73-71, in San Diego a month later. The two sides have played each other just once in the 11-year history of the MWC tournament, that being a 78-37 Cougars' win in the inaugural season in 2000 in Las Vegas.

BYU has been off since last Saturday, when they defeated first-place TCU to end the regular season with a 20-8 record and a 11-5 mark in league play. BYU has won just one MWC championship in 2002, but has advanced to the title game a record six times.

Friday's semifinal game will be televised live on The Mtn. and will also be shown live locally on Channel 4 San Diego. Chris Ello will have the radio call on Xtra Sports 1360 AM, while live stats for all games are on goaztecs.com.
