SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's golf team is heading north this week for the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, March 8-9. San Jose State will be playing host to the event at the par 72, 6,223-yard Almaden Country Club in San Jose, Calif. The invitational begins with a shotgun start both days at 8 a.m. PT, with Monday featuring two rounds and Tuesday involving the final 18 holes.
San Diego State will be one of 16 schools competing, including three teams ranked in the top 30 and six in the top 50. The Aztec squad, which is currently ranked 54th by Golfstat.com, will be led by juniors Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) and Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.), sophomore Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and freshmen Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) and Gina Clark (Palm Desert, Calif.). Wong was recently named the Mountain West Conference golfer of the month for the second consecutive time, becoming only the second Aztec in league history honored twice in one season.
The Aztecs were slated to golf in last year's Juli Inkster Spartan Invite, but the tournament was canceled due to rain. SDSU is coming off a 12th-place performance last week at the Bruin Wave Invitational in Santa Clarita, Calif., which saw Enarsson log a top-25 finish.
Live stats will be available on Golfstat.com and results will be posted on goaztecs.com following both days of action.
