San Diego State sophomore golfer Colin Featherstone (Fallbrook, Calif.) moved from 11th into a tie for sixth place with a final round 71 Tuesday at the 5th Annual Callaway Invitational at the par-72, 6,910-yard Farms Golf Club in Ranch Santa Fe, Calif. Featherstone ended the two-day tournament tied with UC Irvine's John Chin and Max Greil at even-par 216, eight strokes behind medalist Bhavik Patel of Fresno State, who carded an 8-under 208.
Featherstone's 216 is a season low by four strokes, but trailed his career best of 214, which he recorded at the Fresno State Classic last season.
Aztec freshman golfer Tom Berry (New Haw, England) dropped from third place into a tie for ninth after posting a final round 77, to end up at 1-over 217, while teammate sophomore Tyler Morris (Encinitas, Calif.) also fell from 48th to 51st on the final individual leaderboard with a 17-over 233, including a 78 over the final 18 holes.
Host USD won the team competition by three strokes over SMU with a 54-hole score of 862.
The San Diego State `A' squad will be back in action this coming weekend as it travels to the 2010 Battle at the Beach, Feb. 14-16, at the Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Coast, Calif.
