SAN DIEGO - Competing as an individual, San Diego State freshman golfer Tom Berry (New Haw, England) is currently in third place after 36 holes Monday with a 4-under 140 at the 5th Annual Callaway Invitational at the par-72, 6,910-yard Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Berry is just one stroke behind Fresno State's Bhavik Patel and trails day one leader SMU's Matt Schovee by two strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.

Berry was tied with Patel and Fresno State's Grant Doverspike through the first 18 holes after carding a career-low 3-under 69. He followed that up with a 71 in the afternoon to match his career best for 36 holes with a 140. Berry ended up fourth overall on the same course a week ago at the one-day San Diego Intercollegiate, Feb. 2.

Also competing as individuals for the Aztecs in the 72-golfer field are sophomores Colin Featherstone (Fallbrook, Calif.), who is tied for 11th place at 1-over 145, including a second-round 68, and Tyler Morris (Encinitas, Calif.), who shaved 13 strokes off his round one total, but is tied for 48th place at 11-over 155.

In team competition, SMU boasts a six-stroke lead over tournament host USD as well as Fresno State.

Tuesday's final round begins at 7:45 a.m. PT with groups going off holes No. 1 and No. 10.
