SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's golf team gets back to action this week, as the Aztecs travel to the inaugural Bruin Wave Invitational at the par-72, 6,282-yard Robinson Ranch Golf Club in Santa Clarita, Calif., March 1-3. SDSU will be among a field of 18 schools, including five squads ranked in the top 10 and nine in the top 40, at the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
San Diego State, which is currently ranked 54th by Golfstat.com and 55th in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, is joined by three other Mountain West Conference squads in BYU, New Mexico and UNLV. The Aztecs will also face stiff competition from the nation's No. 1 team and tournament co-host UCLA, along with fellow top 10 squads in No. 2 Arizona State, No. 6 USC, No. 8 Arizona and No. 9 Pepperdine. Out of the 18 schools, all nine Pac-10 schools are competing, while all but two squads are ranked among the nation's top 100.
SDSU head coach Emilee Klein will bring the same five golfers for the third event in a row, including juniors Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) and Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.), sophomore Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and freshmen Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) and Gina Clark (Palm Desert, Calif.). Wong enters this week ranked as high as 51st nationally and has won two individual titles in her five career outings.
This is the Aztecs' second tournament this spring, as the team took fourth at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami Lakes, Fla., Feb. 14-16.
SDSU will be paired with USC and Oregon for Monday's first round, beginning from the 10th tee at 9:39 a.m. PT. Live stats will be available for the entire tournament on golfstat.com and goaztecs.com.
