SAN DIEGO - San Diego State freshman golfer Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) has been named GOLFWEEK's player of the week for her performance in the Hurricane Invitational, Feb. 14-16, in Miami Lakes, Fla., the national publication announced Monday afternoon.
Wong won her second tournament title in her fifth career event as an Aztec by carding a 1-over 217 to win by three strokes in the 90-player field. She remains the only MWC women's golfer to win an event this season and is ranked as high as 51st nationally by golfstat.com. She is the first SDSU player in the 11-year MWC era to win two 54-hole tournament titles in the same season.
Wong was also featured as the lead story of GOLFWEEK's College Notebook (golfweek.com) last week in a story written by Julie Williams.
The Aztec women's golf squad returns to action March 1-3, at the Bruin/Wave Invitational in Canyon Country, Calif.
