San Diego State Men's Tennis Waits Out Rain, Defeats UCSB, 4-2

Feb. 21, 2010

SAN DIEGO - One day after flirting with an upset of sixth-ranked UCLA, the San Diego State men's tennis team waited out a nearly three-hour delay due to wet conditions to claim its first victory of the season.

San Diego State won the top three singles matches en route to a 4-2 victory over UC Santa Barbara at the Aztecs Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The Aztecs, which have played four nationally-ranked opponents to date, are 1-5, while the Gauchos fall to 3-6 on the season.

Following a three hour delay due to morning showers in the San Diego area, the match started with singles action. Achim Ceban, Juan Gomez, Giovanni Vaglietti and Tim Schulz van Endert all won straight-set singles matches to lift the Aztecs to their first victory of the season.

With the team match decided, doubles play was not contested. The Aztecs are back in action on Tuesday, when San Diego State plays at fifth-ranked USC.
