SAN DIEGO - Oklahoma used a nine-run sixth inning to overturn a four-run deficit in game one and led from start to finish in the second game as it swept a doubleheader (17-5 and 9-5) from San Diego State Saturday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. With the victories the Sooners improved to 3-0 during the opening weekend of the season for both teams while SDSU finds itself winless after three contests.

Coming off Friday's opening night loss, the Aztecs started the afternoon in fine fashion as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and led by the score of 5-1 after five. Those five runs came five different ways as SDSU scored on a double steal in the first, an RBI double by Jordan Van Hoosier and a run-scoring ground out in the second, a bases-loaded walk to Brandon Meredith in the fourth and a wild pitch that scored Van Hoosier in the fifth.

On the mound, meanwhile San Diego State freshman Bryan Crabb was keeping the potent Sooner offense at bay in his first collegiate start. The right-hander from nearby Coronado High School allowed just a single run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts before being lifted with two out in the fifth.

The Aztec bullpen, however, did not have a good afternoon as Oklahoma touched up three SDSU pitchers for the nine runs in the top of the sixth. Three errors in the frame also aided the Sooner rally as five of the runs in the inning were of the unearned variety.

Defensive miscues plagued the home side throughout the contest as SDSU finished with six errors that accounted for a total of eight unearned runs in the game. They added three more errors in the second contest.

Offensively, the Aztecs were unable to mount any sort of comeback as three Oklahoma relievers held them scoreless over the final four frames, allowing just a pair of hits. Michael Rocha (1-0) picked up the win after two innings of relief work while SDSU senior Kegan Sharp (0-1) was saddled with the loss.

In the nightcap, the Sooners put up single markers in the second through fourth innings before adding four in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead. The big blow in that four-run outburst was a two-run double by designated hitter Tyler Ogle.

After OU added a run in the top of the seventh, San Diego State began a comeback effort by putting five runs on the board in the bottom of the frame. Jomel Torres' bases-loaded single to right drove in two runs with a third scoring on a throwing error from right field. Torres would later score on a single by Van Hoosier as the Aztecs drew to within three at 8-5.

But that was as close as the home side would come with Oklahoma adding one more run to its total in the eighth and shutting out the SDSU offense over the final two innings. OU starter Ryan Gibson, who tossed five innings of shutout ball while striking out nine, picked up his first win of the season while Ryan Duke went the final two innings for his second save of the series.

Drew Leary, who came on in relief in the opening inning due to an injury to starter Ryan O'Sullivan, gave up seven runs (five earned) over 4.2 innings of work as he took the loss.

Van Hoosier ended the day going 4-for-7 with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Torres, who did play in the opener, finished with a pair of hits, a run scored and two RBI.

The Aztecs and Sooners will conclude their four-game series with a contest on Sunday (Feb. 21) scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. (PT) at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
