The San Diego State softball team continued its offensive surge to start the season in a 7-2 victory over Western Kentucky Friday night at the 20th annual Campbell/Cartier Classic at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs had 17 hits, their most since tying a school record with 18 on April 14, 2007 in Albuquerque, N.M., to improve to 7-1 on the season.

SDSU scored two runs apiece in the first, second and third inning, and another in the fourth before being held scoreless over the final three innings. San Diego State finished the game with 12 runners left on base.

Redshirt junior Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) had a career-high four hits to lead the offense, while redshirt senior Monica Alnes (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) was 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Junior Traci Wolf (Lancaster, Calif.) and sophomore Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS/Cal State Bakersfield) each had two hits and drove in two runs, while senior Brittany Knudsen (San Diego, Calif.) added two hits and two runs. Freshman Tanya Holguin (Woodland, Calif.) chipped in a 2-for-4 outing with a walk and a run scored, and joined Wolf and freshman Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) with a double apiece.

Freshman Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) picked up a win in her first collegiate game after allowing one run on four hits and four walks over four innings of relief. Sophomore Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) started the game for San Diego State and yielded one run on one hit and two walks over three innings.

The Hilltoppers' (2-4) starter Dana Nathanson (1-2) was chased after just 1 1/3 innings after surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits. Kim Wagner relieved Nathanson in the second and gave up two unearned runs on four hits and a walk over 1 2/3 innings. Mallorie Sulaski tossed the final four frames and allowed one run on six hits and walk, while striking out five Aztecs.
